Born in Sydney in 1885, Harry Julius studied at the Julian Ashton School, Sydney. A theatre caricaturist, he is believed to have patented a system of cartoon animation. He is best remembered for his partnership with Sidney Ure Smith in the advertising firm, Smith and Julius, which gave employment and encouragement to many of the artists of the period.
