Born in Sydney in 1944, Winch studied at the National Art School from 1962 to 1966 and Sydney Teachers' College. A sculptor, printmaker, painter, author and illustrator he had more than 80 solo exhibitions and was a finalist in the Sulman, Wynne and Dobell prizes. His awards include the New England Art Museum Painting Prize and the 2000 Kedumba Drawing Award.
