Born in Melbourne in 1960 Polixeni Papapetrou studied law at the University of Melbourne and worked for a time as a commercial lawyer, but in 1984 bought a camera and started taking pictures after seeing photographs by Diane Arbus. A photographer, her personal and figurative work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Australia and overseas including South Korea, Germany, Greece and the United States. In 2017 Papapetrou won the $30,000 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize. Polixeni Papapetrou died on 11 April, 2018.
