Born in Sydney in 1949, David McBride studied science, but received no formal art training. He was interested in the work of Cezanne, Braque, Matisse, Klee and Kandinsky, and began to paint in 1972. McBride first exhibited his watercolours, gouaches and drawings in Sydney in 1985.
