Born in Sydney in 1957, John Walker studied in Sydney. Known as a landscape painter working in oil and charcoal, he has exhibited in several Australian states and in France. In 2008 a retrospective exhibition of Walker's work was staged at the S. H. Ervin Gallery, Sydney and in 2014, a survey of Walker's significant, large-scale canvases was held at Orange Regional Gallery. He was a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize and in the Wynne Prize in in 2015 and 2017.
