Francis Frederick Hutton was born in 1826 in Bideford, Devon, England and after studying at Kings College, London and Cambridge University, arrived in Australia about 1850. A portrait painter, he worked in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. He sailed for England in 1859 but drowned when his vessel was shipwrecked off the Welsh Coast. The Australian Art Sales Digest only records the sale of a single work attributed to him The Sketch Book of Francis Frederick Hutton sold by Bonhams in London in 2015.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 2015.
