Freddy Ward Tjungurrayi was born east of Kiwirrkura in the Gibson Desert area of Western Australia around 1955, Fred lived in Warburton, WA before returning to live in Pintupi territory at Kiwirrkura in August 1984. He soon began to paint for Papunya Tula Artists, exhibiting his work for the first time in 1987. In 1989 he won the NT Art Award. His paintings are Tingari Cycle Dreamings in the classic Pintupi style of concentric circles linked by lines of travel, his work being distinctive for its powerful designs and austerely traditional palette.

We have records of art auction sales by Freddy Ward Tjungurrayi from 1991 and in total 26 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 12 (46%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $19,017 for Patjanja sold by Sotheby's in December 2019. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
