Born in Hobart in 1949, Fraser Fair studied at Prahran Technical College and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. and went to Europe on a study tour in 1971. Starting as an abstract artist, he moved towards more figurative work and painted a number of portraits of public figures. He has exhibited in Melbourne, and has won a number of art awards. Fair's work is represented in the National Collection, Canberra, and in institutional and private collections throughout Australia and the United States.

The total number of works by Fraser Fair offered for sale by auction since 1981 is 54, of which 31 (57%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $14,400 for Katherine Gorge sold by Sotheby's in May 2005. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Fraser Fair are held by the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and a further four major public national galleries (see list below).
