A New Zealand artist born in 1921, Elise Mourant studied at Wellingtnon Technical College, the Slade School of Art in London and the National College of Art in Dublin. She later taught at the Seddon Technical College which is now part of Auckland University of Technology. Formerly a Wellington painter, she exhibited with the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin, Hays Art Competition in Christchurch in 1962, the Auckland Society of Arts, and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in 1943 and 1976.
