Born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1956, Euan MacLeod received a Certificate in Graphic Design from the Christchurch Technical Institute in 1975 and a Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting) from the University of Canterbury in 1979. He moved to Australia in 1981, has worked at the Australian Museum in Sydney as a preparator and now teaches painting at the National Art School in Sydney. He has exhibited in New Zealand and Australia's eastern state capitals and has won the Archibald Prize in 1999, the Sulman Prize in 2001, the Blake Prize in 2006 and the Dobell Prize for Drawing in 2021.
