Born in 1959 Roger Byrt was awarded Master of Art from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and also studied at the Caulfield Institute of Technology. From 1989 until 2001 he was appointed a part time lecturer at Monash University, then Acting Head of Painting and received an Ian Potter Foundation Grant. His work is influenced by early Renaissance and late 16th century Italian paintingse and has exhibited widely in both solo and group shows.
