Born in Orange, New South Wales in 1876, Henry Garlick studied art at Orange Technical College and while still a student he won local prizes and showed an oil painting at the Royal Art Society’s 1894 exhibition. He moved to Sydney in 1895 and studied at Julian Ashton 's evening art classes in 1895-98. A painter of animals and impressionisitic landscapes, he was a member of the Royal Art Society until his death, apart from four years with the rival Society of Artists from 1897. he exhibited with the Royal Art Society from 1894. His work was included in the 1898 Australian art exhibition at Grafton Gallery, London. He died in 1910.
