Born in Western Australia in 1939, Miriam Stannage had no formal art training. A painter and printmaker, she travelled extensively in the early 1960s, and from 1966 to 1968 was secretary of the Contemporary Art Society of WA. She has taught art and received an Australia Council grant. Stannage has had numerous exhibitions since 1970 in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
