Born in Hungary, Zoltan Fenyes studied at the Academy of Art in Budapest. During the Russian occupation of Hungary, Zoltan who was a young art teacher, was taken to a gulag in Siberia where he was incarcerated for almost four years for participating in an anti-communist exhibition. He left Hungary for South America and was an art teacher in Buenos Aires and lived in several other South American countries prior to his arrival in Australia in the 1960s. He was the winner of several major prizes and awards in South America and in Australia and has held several successful one-man exhibitions. He has been commisisoned to paint portraits of leading citizens as well as several large murals, including at Concord Repatriation Hospital Sydney, which is 16 metres long.

We have records of art auction sales by Zoltan Fenyes from 1975 and in total 190 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 154 (81%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,090 for Nude sold by Goodmans Auctioneers in December 1993. This year 6 works have been offered for sale.
