Born in England in 1813, Thomas Turner arrived in Perth in 1830. A topographical artist, architect and surveyor, he also worked for a time as a gold miner in Victoria, an employee of the Lands Department and a farmer in New South Wales. He is noted for his fine watercolours of the Augusta-Busselton area in south-west Western Australia; some of these are held in the state gallery and in the Battye Library, Perth. His work is also represented in the Mitchell Library in Sydney.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1988.
