Born in England in 1874, Amy Heap qualified as an art teacher in 1895 and arrived in Western Australia in 1910. She exhibited in Perth and travelled extensively in Australia and New Zealand. During World War I Heap joined the 'Western Mail' as a photographer and artist, and from 1922 contributed poems, short stories and articles. Her watercolours were used as covers for Christmas issues in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Amy Heap retired in about 1933 and moved to Albany, Western Australia.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $23,100 for View East, St. Georges Terrace, Perth 1932 sold by McKenzies Auctioneers in November 2002.
