Born in Port Stephens, New South Wales in 1930, Duffy studied under Howard Totenhofer from 1949 to 1951 and worked as a commercial artist before turning full time to painting. A traditional painter in oils of landscapes and seascapes, he regularly exhibited with the Ku-Ring-Gai Art Society, and was a regular exhibitor at the Sydney Royal Show from 1960 to 2014. He has received a number of awards in New South Wales art shows
