Born in New Zealand in 1939, Selwyn Muru is a contemporary Maori painter, sculptor, writer and playwright. In 1962 he gave up his career as a teacher to pursue his interest in the arts full time. Principally self-taught, he has exhibited in the Hays Art Competitions in 1962 and 1966, with the Auckland Society of Arts and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.
The total number of works by Selwyn Muru offered for sale by auction since 1992 is 60, of which 47 (78%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $14,523 for Hone Heke sold by Art+Object in September 2016. This year one work has been offered for sale.
