About Joseph Sander Welch
Born in London in 1841, Joseph Sandell arrived in New Zealand in 1865. A surveyor, explorer and painter (principally a watercolourist) he was a founder of the Otago Art Society in 1876. He was also the father of the artist, Nugent Welch.
