About Charles Gentil
Charles Gentil was born in Auckland in 1914 and attended Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland. After leaving Elam he worked as a commercial artist then joined the New Zealand Army during World War II. Charles exhibited initially with Auckland Society of Arts from 1935, and was a Councillor from 1953-55. He also exhibited with the with Rutland Group in 1950 and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in 1952. After his death in Auckland on 4 October 1989, the Fisher Gallery, Pakuranga arranged a retrospective exhibition of his work.
