Born in the UK in 1921, Roy Fluke arrived in Sydney in 1928. He studied at the East Sydney Technical College until 1939 when his studies were interrupted for five years by war service. He lost his left leg in action in New Guinea, but on discharge returned to finish his diploma in 1950. He later taught at the National Art School, Sydney and worked on semi-abstract paintings influenced by Oriental caligraphy, some sculpture work and a book of poetry.
