Born in Czechoslovakia in 1926, Marek studied at the Prague Academy, arriving in Australia as a refugee in 1948. He settled in Adelaide after a brief period in New South Wales. In Adelaide he painted and produced numerous films. He moved to Hobart in 1973 where he was appointed lecturer in painting and film making at the Tasmanian College of Advanced Education. Marek won several prizes for both art and film making.

The earliest auction listing we have for Dusan Marek is in 1984 and in total 48 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 34 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $5,280 for Carnival Metropolis sold by Lawson~Menzies (now trading as Menzies) in November 2005. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
