Born in Tasmania in 1934, Bea Maddock studied at the Hobart Technical College from 1952 to 1956 and at the Slade School in London from 1959 to 1961. A printmaker, painter, papermaker, book-artist and potter, from 1964 she held over 42 solo exhibitions in Hobart, Melbourne Sydney, Canberra and Ballarat. She won a number of art prizes including the Tasmanian Prize for Drawing in 1968, and the Australian National University Creative Arts Fellowship in 1976.
