Born in Canberra in 1942, Guy Stuart studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1961-62. He first exhibited in Melbourne in 1969 and since then has held over 25 solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney. His work has been included in a number of group exhibitions including Field to Figuration at the National Gallery of Victoria in 1987, Off the Wall - In the Air at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in 1991 and Intimate Portraits at the National Portrait Gallery in 2002. A retrospective of his work was held at Heide Gallery in Melbourne in 1982. He won the Crouch Prize in 1967, and has twice been awarded Visual Arts Board Travel Grants in 1976 and 2000.
