Born in Sydney in 1955 Francis Giacco studied at University of New South Wales where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science, architecture. He then studied at the Julian Ashton School and in Vienna from 1980 to 1983. He is best known as a painter in the 17th century classical style he was the winner of the 1994 Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize, the Mosman Art Prize in 1996 and the Hills Grammar Art Prize in 2000. He has been a finalist in the Blake Prize and Doug Moran Portrait Prize. Giacco has held solo exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and since 1990.
