Aletta Lewis had studied at the Slade School, London, before arriving in Sydney in c1926. She taught part time at the Julian Ashton’s Sydney Art School. exhibited at the modernist exhibition at the Grosvenor Galleries in 1926 and at Macquarie Galleries in 1928 and 1929. She returned to London about 1930, where she continued to work until the early 1940s, when she retired due to ill-health.
