Born in England in 1888, Ernest Abbott was a printmaker, painter and art teacher. After leaving school he worked as a signwriter, and migrated to Western Australia in 1910, later moving to South Australia. He taught art until he moved to Melbourne in about 1917 and opened a studio.

The total number of works by Ernest Abbott offered for sale by auction since 1972 is 203, of which 173 (85%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,870 for Mosque - El-Muayyard, Cairo sold by Elder Fine Art in April 2007. This year one work has been offered for sale.
