About Ernest Edwin Abbott
Born in England in 1888, Ernest Abbott was a printmaker, painter and art teacher. After leaving school he worked as a signwriter, and migrated to Western Australia in 1910, later moving to South Australia. He taught art until he moved to Melbourne in about 1917 and opened a studio.
The total number of works by Ernest Abbott offered for sale by auction since 1972 is 203, of which 173 (85%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,870 for Mosque - El-Muayyard, Cairo sold by Elder Fine Art in April 2007. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Ernest Abbott are held by the Art Gallery of Western Australia and Ian Potter Museum of Art.
