Born in Victoria in 1958, Terry Taylor studied in Melbourne. A teacher and painter, he exhibited his paintings from 1979, his first solo show being in Melbourne in 1985. Taylor has taught life drawing and painting at tertiary institutions in Melbourne. His work is represented in the Australian National Gallery and the National Gallery of Victoria.
