Born in West Germany in 1947, Wes Placek arrived in Australia at the age of three. He studied at Preston Institute of Technology and Monash University and was awarded MA Visual Arts. He held his first one man exhibition at Pinacotheca Gallery Melbourne in 1971 and founded Artists Space Gallery in 1979 Melbourne. He has exhibited his work with international and local artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Bettina Rheims, Richard Otremba and Philip Guston. He has painted large abstract-expressionist paintings and small scale paintings of still life.
