Born on the Banks Peninsula on the South Island of New Zealand in 1898, Reg Waghorn was a self taught artist although he did have tuition from a number of artists. He was a watercolourist painting New Zealand landscapes from the central area of the North Island. He exhibited at the Auckland Society of Arts, the Hays Art Competition in 1962 and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1925, and was represented at the Coronation Exhibition in London. He was President of the of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1967 to 1971.
The total number of works by Reg Waghorn offered for sale by auction since 1994 is 161, of which 125 (78%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $4,520 for Aratiatia Rapids sold by International Art Centre in August 2016. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Reg Waghorn are held by the Museum Of New Zealand and Suter Art Gallery.
