Anwen Keeling was born in Sydney in 1976. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (First Class Honours) at the Australian National University, Canberra and was awarded the University Medal in 1998 and was also awarded a Masters of European Fine Art from the Winchester School of Art, South Hampton University, Barcelona, Spain in 2001. A figure and portrait painter working in oil on canvas and linen, her first solo exhibition was in Melbourne in 1999 and since then has held over 14 solo shows in Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions in the same cities and in the UK, Spain and Japan. She was a finalist in the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 2010 and in 2011 and her work was exhibited in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2004 at the State Library of New South Wales. In 2007 Keeling was awarded the ABN AMRO Emerging Artist Award (Employee’s Choice). She is also a lecturer in painting and life drawing at The College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales and The National Art School, Sydney. Anwen Keeling lives and works in Sydney.
