Born in Sydney in 1928, Eric Minchin is a basically self-taught artist. He was a founder of the Broken Hill group, the Brushmen of the Bush, which included Pro Hart, Jack, Absalom and High Schulz. They exhibited widely throughout Australia and in Los Angeles, New York, London and Rome. The brushmen raised over $1 million for charity between the mid 1970s and 1994. Broken Hill City council declared 2006 the Year of Brushmen of the Bush. A retrospective exhibition opened that year in the Broken Hill Regional Gallery and travelled to regional galleries througout Australia.
