About Edwyn Frederick Temple
Born in England in 1835, Captain Edwyn Temple resigned from the British Army in 1870 after serving in India and the Crimea, and arrived in Christchurch in 1879. He later farmed in Geraldine. Temple exhibited his oils, watercolours and black and white drawings with the Canterbury School of Arts from 1881 to 1893. He died in 1921 and his work is represented in the Turnbull and Hocken Libraries and McDougall Art Gallery in Christchurch.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1998.
