About William Benson
William Benson was born in 1812. He arrived in South Australia in the early 1850s and after a few years moved to Ballarat. A painter, sketcher, journalist and mining surveyor he is known for his drawings and watercolours of the Ballarat environs at the time of the gold rush. He died at Ballarat in 1882.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1985.
