About Jean Broome-Norton
Jean Broome-Norton was born in 1911. She enrolled in the art classes of East Sydney Technical College in 1929, and specialised in sculpture under Rayner Hoff, graduating with a Diploma of Art in 1934. She became an important member of the group of (predominantly female) sculpture students at East Sydney Technical College whom Rayner Hoff developed into the coherent 'school' of sculptors which dominated Sydney sculptural production in the inter-war decades.
