Born in 1936, James Clifford studied at the Muswellbrook Technical College and at the Orban School and Ogburn School Sydney. Working with oil and acrylics he imitates realism. He held all of his 14 Australian solo exhibitions between 1966 and 1987 at the Watters Gallery, Sydney, and two exhibitions in India in the early 1970s.
The total number of works by James Clifford offered for sale by auction since 1991 is 49, of which 35 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $4,418 for The Moon River 1976 sold by Leonard Joel in August 2022. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by James Clifford are held by the Art Gallery of NSW, National Gallery of Australia and a further two major public national galleries (see list below).
