Born in Sydney in 1897, Elaine Coghlan studied at the Royal Art Society School under Dattilo Rubbo and James R Jackson. From 1920 she exhibited drawings and oil paintings of portraits and landscapes, with watercolour eventually becoming her principal medium. Coghlan taught art privately and at several private schools, and was a prominent member of several art societies. During World War II she studied engineering drawing. Coghlan died in 1989.
