Born in New Zealand in 1964, Seraphine Pick studied at University of Canterbury, graduating in 1987 and gained a Diploma of Teaching from Christchurch College of Education in 1991. In 1994 she received the Olivia Spencer-Bower Foundation Art Award. A contemporary painter and installation artist, she was also awarded the Rita Angus Cottage Residency in Wellington in 1995 and in 1999 Pick she was made the Frances Hodgkins Fellow at the University of Otago, Dunedin. She has received grants from the Arts Council of New Zealand and Creative New Zealand. From 1997-98 Pick lectured in painting at Elam school of Fine Arts, the University of Auckland. In 2009 Séraphine had a survey exhibition which toured to three major cities within New Zealand. Pick's paintings can be found in such public collections as Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwheta, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

We have records of art auction sales by Seraphine Pick from 1998 and in total 367 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 219 (60%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $250,194 for Burning the Furniture sold by Webb's in November 2021. This year 12 works have been offered for sale. Works by Seraphine Pick are held by the Christchurch Art Gallery, Auckland Art Gallery and a further two major public national galleries (see list below).
