Born in England in 1946, Terry Stringer arrived in New Zealand in 1952. He studied at Elam School, Auckland receiving a Diploma of Fine Arts in 1967. A figurative artist and sculptor, he has been commissioned to create several major public sculptures and installations public sites in Christchurch and Auckland. He has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Scholarship three times. In 2001 he established Zealandia Sculpture Garden at his home in New Zealand's North Island, which contains a number of Stringer's sculptures, together with works by other sculptors. He was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to sculpture in the New Year's Honours in 2003.
