Born in England in 1946, Keith Cowlam studied at Croydon College of Art and Ravensbourne College of Art, and after his arrival in Australia in 1977, at the South Australian School of Art where he studied painting and printmaking. Keith has exhibited at several major galleries in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth including Bonython Galleries, Robin Gibson Gallery, Bridge Street Gallery, Australian Galleries, Hill Smith Gallery, Greenhill Galleries, Perth Gallery and Jackman Gallery. He returned to Europe in 1990 living mainly in the UK and France for twelve years and returned to Adelaide in 2002.Keith has won several art prizes for his prints and paintings and is represented in several state and corporate collections.

The total number of works by Keith Cowlam offered for sale by auction since 1986 is 28, of which 14 (50%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $12,180 for Heading East, Heading West, Port Noarlunga sold by Elder Fine Art in August 2020. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Keith Cowlam are held by the Art Gallery of South Australia.
