A visual artist who uses the medium of photography, Boyd Webb was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and attended the Ilam School of Art from 1968 to 1971 then travelled to London in 1972 to study at the Royal College of Art. After graduation in 1975, he stayed on in London, and had his first solo exhibition in 1976. Since then he has exhibited widely in New Zealand, Europe and America and has four works in the Tate Collection, London. Major exhibition venues include Hirschhorn Museum, Washington, Auckland Art Gallery touring exhibition, and Museum Fredericianum Kassel. He represented was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1988 and represented New Zealand in the Sydney Biennale in 1995.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $20,215 for Tosser sold by Webb's in December 2003.
