Born in the Bay of Islands, Auckland in 1909, Alison Pickmere studied at University of Auckland Elam School of Fine Art in 1937, East Sydney Technical College in 1948 and in c1964 in Paris where she learned the colour etching process. A painter and printmaker, she is best remembered for her abstract interpretations of New Zealand landscapes, particularly the Northland and Auckland coasts and exhibited with the Auckland Society of Arts, the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1944, the Rutland Group, and The Group in Christchurch in 1957 and 1968. She died in 1971.
