Born in Ireland in 1927, Phillip Martin started painting after three years in naval service. He married the artist Helen Marshall, and spent many years in India before returning to Italy, on the lake of Como, finally settling with his family in Sydney in 1969. A painter in oil, acrylic, enamel and collage, Martin has exhibited since 1951, his first Australian solo show being in Sydney in 1985.
