Born in New South Wales in 1900, Rehfisch studied at the Julian Ashton School in Sydney with Dattilo Rubbo and in 1933 at the Grosvenor School in London and continued painting and exhibiting until she returned to Australia in 1939 where she continued her career. A modernist artist, she was member of the Contemporary Group and the Contemporary Art Society of Australia.
We have records of art auction sales by Alison Rehfisch from 1972 and in total 370 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 283 (76%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $103,700 for Cagnes, c.1937 sold by Bonhams in October 2020. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Alison Rehfisch are held by the Art Gallery of NSW, National Gallery of Victoria and a further three major public national galleries (see list below).
