Born in Sydney in 1947, Ian Grant studied at the National Art School, Sydney and later gained a Masters of Art (Visual Art) from the Sydney College of Advanced Education in 1986. He was Head of Painting Studies at the University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts from 1989 to 2006. He was awarded the Blake Prize for Religious Art in 1987 and the Fleurieu Peninsula Art Prize of $50,000 in 2004. His work has been included in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Wynne Prize on ten occasions. He has exhibited regularly in Sydney and Brisbane since 1972.
