Born in England in 1812, Louisa Meredith had written and illustrated five books by the age of twenty-seven. She had also exhibited her paintings, mainly miniature portraits, before her arrival in Sydney with her new husband, Charles Meredith in 1839. After a brief period in Bathurst she moved to Tasmania with her husband and young son. She is best known as a writer and botanical artist. In 1844 she published 'Notes and Sketches of New South Wales' and in 1850 a companion volume 'My Home in Tasmania' followed by seven volumes of poems. Her wildflower drawings won several medals in Australia and overseas. Meredith died in Collingwood Melbourne, in 1895.
