Born in Peru in 1930, Westwood studied extensively in Argentina prior to his arrival in Australia in 1950, undertaking further studies at the East Sydney Technical College. He held his first one-man exhibition at the Bonython Gallery in 1969, followed by around 30 solo shows throughout Australia during his lifetime. He won the Archibald Prize twice, in 1989 and 1992, the latter with a portrait of former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating.

Bryan Westwood is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1974 of 481, of which 287 (60%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $58,750 for Self Portrait sold by Mossgreen Auctions in February 2006. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
