About Michael Colin Taylor
Although born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1950, Michael Taylor spent his formative years in Sydney, N.S.W. Taylor worked as a photographer and designer before taking up painting professionally in 1973. Mostly painting with oil, he has painted a number of works in gouache as well as watercolour. Although he has no formal training, Michael Taylor paints the Australian scene in a unique style, with affinities to past masters such as Hans Heysen and Frederick McCubbin. This artist should be distinguished from Michael Franklin Taylor, born 1933. Michael Colin Taylor paints realist representational landscapes whereas Michael Franklin Taylor paints gestural abstracts, often with a landscape or seascape source, but quite distinct.
