Born in the Norwich, England in 1950, Rod McRae graduated in medicine in London in 1974 and practised as a doctor in London before studying at St Martins School of Art, London, and the Slade School, London.. He arrived in Australia in 1982, settling in Melbourne. A contemporary painter, he has exhibited in London, Melbourne, Sydney and regional galleries. He has been a finalist twice in the Blake Prize for Religious Art (2005 and 2006) and a finalist in the Wynne Prize for Australian landscape/figurative sculpture in 2007 and 2010. He has been the Head Teacher of Events, Design and Illustration at the Design Centre Enmore, NSW since 1993.
