Born in England in 1902 Gordon Edward George Minhinnick studied at Kelly College, Tavistock. He arrived in New Zealand in 1921 where he studied architecture. He was well known as a newspaper and political cartoonist and he exhibited his pen and ink drawings and watercolours with the Auckland Society of Arts. In the 1976 Queen's Birthday Honours he was knighted (promoted to Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire), for services as a cartoonist.
